Насчет принадлежности морпехов
Вот что мне написал один морпех, учитель истории USMC:
Although it 'serves' the Navy, the USMC has always been a semi-autonomous (выделено мной)
corps since its inception in 1775, and existed administratively separate from
the Navy. In fact, it sometimes existed as a guard force when there was no
Navy in existence. The USMC was only given representation on the Joint Chiefs
of Staff in 1947, which is where the confusion comes in.
The Corps has, since the 19th century, had its own budget, procurement
program, et cetera. It does however draw medical, chaplain corps, transport,
and some other support functions from the USN. (Hence the currently
controversial V-22 Osprey debate, and the AAAV program).
It is in fact the only branch whose strength is specified by law. The Defense
Unification Act specifies that there must by law be three active duty
divisions and supporting air wings, with one Reserve division and air wing.
This is why the Army always takes the bite during defense cuts, which for
historical reasons has a certain irony about it.
Вот так.
Естественно, высказывания Несамарского насчет того что морпехи - это дескать не пехота - глупости.
Впрочем, чего ты от него хочешь, Кадет :-)
