С этим я не спорю. Но я ведь написал, что пилоты подозревали, что устройство весь самолёт взорвёт. При этом кивания на подобные устройства в других самолётах неактуальны, так как этот самолёт и эти миссии было совершенно необычными.
Из рассказа сына Пауерса:
Since U-2 pilots would have to fly over forbidden territory without the use of radio transmissions, they were given intensive training in navigation. They were also trained in the use of the photographic and technical equipment they would be carrying. One of these pieces of equipment was a "destruct mechanism". If it became necessary to abandon a plane over a Communist country, its purpose was to blow up the part containing the cameras and electronic equipment. This was not because the equipment was so secret, it was to obliterate any physical proof that we were spying. I mention this mechanism because it would figure prominently in stories about the crash. It was generally believed that the mechanism was intended to destroy the entire plane. But it carried only a two-and-a-half pound explosive charge, which was just enough to destroy the cameras and electronic equipment in the nose of the plane.
