Of the 616 tanks and assault guns committed to the Lorraine fighting in September, there were only 127 still operational by 1 October. Losses had amounted to 101 P/.Kpfw IVs, 118 Panthers, and 221 assault guns and lank destroyers. A further 148 armored vehicles were on hand but were damaged and in need of repair. German losses in men and equipment in Lorraine were far higher than those of the Americans -and far more difficult to replace.

Total Third Army armored vehicle losses in September included 49 light tanks and 151 medium tanks and tank destroyers. A total of 392 tanks were issued in September, so by the end of the month, Third Army had more than replaced all of its losses.
