Цифры комиссии Реттига на полноту не претендуют.
Реттинг - не Земсков. В отличии от последнего, он сотоварищи не работал с архивными материалами, сколько-нибудь полным образом охватывающими соответствующую статистику.
Полномочий, чтобы вести следственные действия, у неё также не было: It did not have subpoena powers or the ability to compel testimony. Весьма красноречивый показатель полноты цифр комиссии Реттинга - почти тысяча "дополнительных" жертв, обнаруженных "комиссией-продолжателем": On the recommendation of the Rettig report, a follow-up organisation, the Reparation and Reconciliation Corporation, was established on 8th February 1992. Its original mandate was to run until 15th July 1993, but this was extended several times.[10] Eventually reporting in 1996, it took over the
continuing investigations on the 641 cases the Rettig Commission had been unable to resolve, and receiving and investigating those cases which had not been presented during the Rettig Commission's one year period of operation... [It] officially recognised a further 123 'disappearances' and 776 extrajudicial executions and death under torture during the military period. Combined with the findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission this brought the number of 'disappearances' to 1,102 and extrajudicial executions and death under torture to 2,095, making a total of 3,197 cases that were officially recognised by the Chilean state.[11]

Для англонечитающих: здесь помимо прочего говорится, что Ассоциация искупления и примирения (не знаю как лучше перевести "Reparation and Reconciliation Corporation") изучила 641 случай, по которым комиссия Реттинга не смогла вынести вердикт.
Таким образом выдавать цифру 2279 за окончательную - очевидное жульничество и/или ламерство.
