Флотофилам: прусский и германский флот в Латинской Америке
deutsche Marine in Lateinamerika 1866 - 1914 : eine Studie deutscher Kanonenbootpolitik / von Gerhard Wiechmann. - 2000. - 473 Bl. - Oldenburg, Univ., Diss., 2000
The thesis treats the activity of the Royal Prussian Navy, the Fleet of the North German Federation and the War Navy of the German Empire in West India and at the South American West- and Eastcoast from 1866 to 1914. Main focus of the investigation is the reconstruction and analysis of diplomatic incidents in Chile, Guatemala, Haiti, Nicaragua, Mexico and Venezuela. Central question is if the Navy followed an independent foreign politic like for example the U.S. Navy or operated dependent from the diplomats of the Foreign Office. Further aspects of the investigation are the view of the naval officers as an elite of the German Empire on foreign cultures and political systems as well as the cooperation between the German War Navy and foreign sea powers in the Bismarck era and the era of Emperor William II. The work bases on unpublished sources of the State Archives Bremen, Hamburg and Oldenburg, the Federal Archive in Berlin and the Military Archive in Freiburg i.Br.
