Встретил данные по морской войне в революционный период Франции.
French privateers captured 2,213 vessels between 1793
and 1801, though this does not take into account the prizes
taken in the Antilles and in the Indian Ocean.
It is estimated that, on all seas,
more than 5,000 British ships were captured by the French
from 1793 and 1801, by privateers as well as by naval vessels.
In the face of this privateering menace, Britain established
convoys and organized operations against these
predators: 557 French privateers were captured between
1793 and 1801, including 41,497 sailors; conversely, at the
same time, 41,487 British seamen were also taken prisoner.
В связи с этим вопрос: французы потеряли в 10 раз меньше кораблей, но столько же в людях. Это значит они крупные суда не захватывали принципиально? Или экипажи судов просто высаживались на берег\топились и поэтому в пленные не записывались?
И какой от всего этого был эффект? Было ли что то подобное в других войнах 18 века?
