Possibly the most valuable of all former Iraqi aircraft were the Il-76s. In the years after their flight to Iran they were operated by the IRIAF until five out of 13 Il-76TDs/MDs were presented to IRGCAF after overhaul in Russia. The Candids remaining in IRIAF service are flowm by 73rd TAS (transport squadron) in Shiraz, while those Il-76TDs operated by the IRGCAF are stationed at Qadr Air Base, Mehrabad. The Il-76s are in much need of overhaul and the first of these was recentely completed in Moscow.
