"A former Lebanese Christian militia leader, Elie Hobeika, who was heavily implicated in the massacre at Palestinian refugee camps near Beirut in 1982, has been assassinated in a bomb explosion. A car bomb went off outside Mr Hobeika's home in the Lebanese capital, killing him and at least three of his bodyguards. During their invasion of Lebanon twenty years ago, Israeli forces were blamed for allowing their right-wing Lebanese allies to kill hundreds of men, women and children at the Sabra and Chatilla camps. Mr Hobeika was accused of playing a leading part in the massacre."
