Бомбардировки Гендерсон-Филд линкорами и крейсерами
Возникла тема сравнения ущерба, и я решил поглядеть в "First Team and the Guadalcanal campaigne" от Ландстрома. Без особых комментариев, просто оставлю это здесь:
Бомбардировка в ночь с 13 на 14 октября 1942 г. «Конго» и «Харуна» выпустили 973 14” снаряда.
Kurita’s bombardment torched nearly all of the aviation gasoline held at CACTUS and set afire or riddled with shrapnel most of the planes at Henderson Field. Only seven of thirty nine SBDs could fly immediately after the ordeal. VT-8 was completely out of business with no operational TBFs. Just four P-400s and two P-39s were ready to go. The previous afternoon eight B-17s … had taken refuge at Henderson field… The bombardment knocked out two and damaged a third Fortress.
Fighting Five lost four F4Fs, which left eight (six flyable). …
Fighter 1 came through better than the main field. Of thirty Marine F4Fs, eighteen still flew.

Теперь бомбардировка в ночь с 13 на 14 ноября 1942 г. «Судзуя» и «Майя» выпустили 989 8” снарядов.
Shell fragments holed fifteen of sixteen operational P-39s and P-400s parked on the right side of the Fighter 1, leaving only one P-400 (the “oldest, most bent up klinker”) untouched. Yet most of them could be repaired. Other than that, 1st MAW largerly escaped significant damage. All the aircraft at Henderson Field (including the P-38s) emerged unscatched. Two big holes pocked Fighter 1. In addition, two F4Fs burned, three other Wildcats and an SBD were badly perforated, and seventeen more F4Fs suffered light damage. Aircraft immediately available that morning (counting the Enterprise detachment) numbered fourteen F4F-4s, sixteen SBD-3s, nine TBFs, three P-39s, and seven P-38s.
Enterprise detachment – это 8 TBF и 6 F4F по Ландстрому и одним TBF больше по Стаффорду («Big E»).
И хотя по Моррисону ущерб сравним (48 выведенных из строя самолётов в первом случае, 50 (18 уничтоженных, 32 повреждённых) во втором), сам он даёт такой комментарий:
«Обстрел крейсеров Нисимуры был просто жалким зрелищем по сравнению с тем, что могли здесь натворить прошлой ночью большие парни Абэ, если бы им позволили».
