One of the first A-2A Sturmvogel bomber versions was shot down near Brussels 28 Aug 1944 by USAAF p-47 Thunderbolts and two Me-262A-1s of the Kommando Nowotny fell to Urban L. Drew's P-51 in October. Several more of the German jets were beaten in the air by RAF Tempests, and within a matter of only weeks Nowotny was shot down and killed. Most of the losses occгred during take-oofs or landings.
