This is essentially the chassis of the Type 69 MBT fitted with a power-operated two-man turret and
armed with twin 37 mm cannon. As far as it is known this system remains at the prototype stage. Details
are given in Jane's Land-Based Air Defence 2002-2003.
Twin 37 mm SPAAG
During a defence exhibition held in Beijing late in 1988, another twin 37 mm self-propelled anti-aircraft
gun system was shown for the first time.
As far as it is known, this system has yet to enter production. Full details of this are given in Jane's
Land-Based Air Defence 2002-2003.
Twin 57 mm Type 80 SPAAG
This is the Chinese equivalent of the Soviet-designed ZSU-57-2 twin 57 mm SPAAG based on a
modified T-54 tank chassis. The Type 80 is a modified Type 69-II MBT chassis fitted with an
open-topped turret armed with twin 57 mm cannon for which a total of 300 rounds of ammunition is
carried.
The Type 80 has a crew of six and a combat weight of 31 tonnes. Full details of this are given in

Twin 37 mm SPAAG
This is essentially the chassis of the Type 69 MBT fitted with a power-operated two-man turret and
armed with twin 37 mm cannon. This was first disclosed in 1986 and at that time only a prototype
existed.
The commander is seated on the left and the gunner on the right with the twin 37 mm cannon between
them; the cannon has an elevation of +87º with a depression of -10º, with turret traverse a full 360º.
No radar system is fitted, so this is a clear weather system only. NORINCO states that the twin 37
mm cannon have a maximum range of 4,000 m in the air defence role with a maximum effective range
of 3,500 m. Full details of this are given in Jane's Land-Based Air Defence 1998-99, pages 43 to 44.
Twin 37 mm SPAAG
During a defence exhibition held in Beijing late in 1988, another twin 37 mm self-propelled anti-aircraft
gun system was shown for the first time.
This has a slightly different power-operated turret of all-welded steel construction and is armed with
the same twin 37 mm cannon fitted with flash suppressors. These weapons have a cyclic rate of fire of
360 to 380 rds/barrel/min with a total of 500 rounds of ready-use ammunition being carried. It has a
crew of four and combat weight is 35 tonnes.
Mounted on the turret rear is a surveillance radar with a maximum range of 15 km and the
fire-control system includes a laser rangefinder with a maximum range of 8 km.
As far as is known, this system has yet to enter production. Full details of this are given in Jane's
Land-Based Air Defence 1998-99, pages 43-44.
