Краткое содержание

Официальные представители США сообщили, что никаких украинских радаров в Ираке обнаружено не было

US OFFICIAL SAYS NO UKRAINIAN RADARS FOUND IN IRAQ

The scandal about Ukraine selling Kolchuga systems (to Iraq) can now be put behind us. The USA admitted that they did not find any of these Ukrainian-made radars in Iraq. Washington suspected that Ukraine had sold military equipment to Iraq in breach of international sanctions.

US Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Steven Pifer told Congress yesterday that no Kolchuga radars had been found in Iraq, and their transfer to the Iraqi leadership may not had taken place. However, he said the White House still could not understand why this deal had been approved by the Ukrainian authorities.

In accusing Ukraine of selling weapons to Iraq, the US administration used audio recording of a conversation between Ukrainian President (Leonid) Kuchma and the former head of (state arms export company) Ukrspetseksport, (Valeriy) Malev about the sale of three Kolchuga systems to Iraq for 100m dollars. This recording was made public three years ago by Kuchma's former bodyguard, Mykola Melnychenko (who was granted asylum in the USA).
